Comment Markers for YouTube · last updated 4 August 2026

This extension does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data.

What the extension does

Comment Markers for YouTube reads the public comments of the YouTube video you are currently watching, extracts the timestamps mentioned in them (such as 1:23), and draws markers at those points on the video's progress bar. Comments are shown to you in the player as you watch or as you hover the timeline.

Data collected

None. The extension has no server, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no advertising. Nothing you do is recorded or sent anywhere by us. Comment text and commenter names are read from the page, displayed to you, and discarded when you leave the page. They are never stored or transmitted.

Website content handled locally

To do its job the extension reads the public comments of the current video: the comment text, the commenter's display name, and their avatar image. Chrome Web Store classifies this as "website content", so it is disclosed on the store listing. It is used only to draw the markers and comment cards you see in the player. It is never transmitted anywhere, never stored, and never shared — it exists in the page's memory while you are on that video and is gone when you navigate away.

Network requests

The only requests the extension makes are to www.youtube.com, from the YouTube page you already have open, to load the comments of the current video — the same data your browser would fetch if you scrolled to the comment section yourself. No request is made to any other host, including any host controlled by the developer.

Local storage

Your preferences (marker colour, avatar size, popup duration and the other settings) are saved with Chrome's storage.sync API. That data stays in your browser and, if you have Chrome sync enabled, syncs across your own signed-in Chrome installations through Google. The developer has no access to it. Uninstalling the extension removes it.

Permissions

Third parties

No data is shared with, sold to, or transferred to any third party, because no data is collected in the first place. Your use of YouTube itself remains governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Children

The extension is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date, and — if the change affects how data is handled — users will be notified in the extension before the change takes effect.
